”introduction call” for potential fall IB internship
Hello everyone, I finally landed a first interview/ introduction call with a boutique investment bank! Please share any advice you have. How can I impress the senior analyst? What skills should I emphasize in the interview? How can I get to the next interview? Etc. Thank you. I appreciate your help!
Here's the best piece of advice I ever got with respect to recruiting: In recruiting, most people want to stand out when the secret is not standing out. As someone with no prior IB experience, there is no way you will impress anyone with experience - they simply know more than you. At the end of the day, people want to work with people they like. So, have well thought out questions that you can't Google to find the answer to, be able to carry a conversation, and don't be weird. You'll be fine.
I was in your exact position. Know about their firm, what they specialize in, and a little bit about that industry and why you may have some interest in it.
From how it was for me and friends at other boutiques, if this is an unpaid position, then this may be the only round before an offer. If it's paid then I'm not sure.
