Is a 3.5 GPA a dealbreaker for IB and PE?

I go to a target (HYP), did growth equity at a small shop sophomore summer, and screwed up recruitment this year for junior summer- I have a 3.5 GPA and am most likely going to recruit for big tech this coming summer/take time off and get my life together- is full time BB IBD or PE not possible for me?

Was in an identical situation. Just did it, but not easy... Definitely try to get something impressive for this summer that also fits your narrative (frame all your experiences so they fit together sensibly). Start networking hard now. Frankly, going to need someone that will go to bat hard for you. So many people that are more qualified on paper, so you will also need to impress in interviews. Doable, though - good luck!

Also, GPA will hurt you most in initial resume screen. Ideally get referred straight to first round interview.

I go to HYP too with a 3.5. BB IBD full time is definitely possible. Just try and find something solid for next summer and work on boosting that GPA. Take a lot of easy classes next semester.

But then again, a 3.5 isn't a dealbreaker. Where you able to get superdays? With my HYP 3.5 I was able to land 3 bulge bracket offers. So, I'd say maybe the 3.5 isn't the problem here.
