Is IB modeling that complex or is my friend trying to act smart?
I work at a real estate shop where we sell commercial property level assets worth on avg. $100M to portfolios that are billions. My job is pure excel modeling slavery at the analyst level with slight deck stuff.
My friend on the other hand works at a tech boutique and they’re selling companies that are similar value to the deals I sell. He talks on and on about howww complex these models are and that you have to be wicked smart to do them. He hasn’t touched a model yet and it’s been 6 months. Seems like he’s got his hands tied making decks on 3 deals while I’m modeling like 8+ at a time. I understand that companies would be more complex but to what degree? We work similar hours.
Is he cappin?
Those who work in real estate advisory or real estate investment banking will understand that it’s complex. If you can do that, then you can do IB modeling. So no, it’s not that complex in comparison to what you’re doing.
