Is it bad form to not annouce new positions on LinkedIn?

Hello Monkeys,

I'm great at networking but I don't really enjoy making the obligatory "EXCITED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY" soap opera speech on LinkedIn. The only thing I post on LinkedIn is my own personal blog stuff related to markets.

If I got accepted into a graduate program, internship, or FT position and didn't post about it, would a firm take it the wrong way and think I was ungrateful or something? I would still obviously add it to my LinkedIn experience but I wouldn't make a post about it or even check the "update network" button when adding it. idk I'm probably overthinking it.

I usually reach out to people directly and thank them for their help with a phone call or email. Are there any downsides to not making the new job post? I have zero interest in likes or showing off to the kids from my high school. Tbh I like my privacy and I don't even like the fact I have to be on LinkedIn at all.

I would never make a post for an insight series or SA offer, and really only would think about posting for a FT offer. And if I did post it would only be the updating network on position change just for that little flex lol.

Yeah I thought about that as well. The only way I would make any post is with the update network button but tbh I don't think I'm even gonna do that. Imagine how much different it would hit when people totally forget about you and then randomly stumble on your profile and see that you're in IB BB. For whatever reason I prefer to move in silence. Again if it were up to me I wouldn't be on LinkedIn at all, or maybe only have very limited visibility.

True I respect that. Plus it protects you on the downside, would hate to be posting and gloating that i'm going into ib only to not convert or have something happen which would just look bad.

As my MD once said regarding LinkedIn: "It's one of those things you have to have, but don't have to use."

totally wrong.  most of my MDS dont ahve linkedin .   there reputations speak for themselves.

you dont need to have linkedin lol

thats such a beta mentality.  if you dont want one, dont have one.....

most effective networking is IN PERSON through mutual contacts...dont need a linkedin for that

if you have a target school background, and good background/resume...no one gives a flying phuck about your linkedin (or if you ahve one)

I don't even let it push out the update to my connections' feed. It's mostly college kids posting about their first job, I never see mid-career professionals posting, perhaps they let LinkedIn do its default update push but nothing else. I just update the title and job on my page and if people are curious they can look me up
