Is it bad to apply in so many forms?

I have applied to a few firms doing the typical technique of OCR drop plus the online application that they require as a formality. However, I also thanked many of my contacts after submitting my application and they told me to send them my CV so they could forward it internally.

This means that HR may seem my CV twice from OCR and from the internal referral. However, I've heard that it is an instant ding if they see your CV twice. Is this an exception or am I screwed?

On a side note, for one of the firms I networked really well and in the online application that supplements the OCR it asked for any contacts that I may have at the bank. I put down the people that I networked with well. However, I accidentally put down one of my contacts from a different bank instead of the one I intended to put. The application also said that they would contact said people to verify. Are they just going to ignore the application because it supplements OCR or am I fucked for that? It didn't ask for an email or anything, just the name.

I had a similar experience with SA recruiting at the end of last year/beginning of this year. OCR applications often require you to go through those painful company career website applications as well. In addition to that (and to answer your first question), there was always someone at each firm who I had been networking with that told me to send a follow-up email with my resume as soon as I submitted my resume via OCR for a 1st round interview. This was never a problem for me in regards to HR eliminating my candidacy from a 1st round.

In regards to your second concern, let this be an early "attention to detail" lesson for you to learn. I can't speak to this one with 100% certainty, but I doubt listing one extra name on the supplemental application is going to immediately disqualify you from consideration. If you are really worried about it, send out an email to someone you have been networking with to "fish" for an interview, i.e. just a standard follow-up asking how to prepare yourself and state how you are looking forward to the recruiting process.

Btw, isn't it a bit early for OCR? Unless this is for FT?

There should be no issue to them 'seeing your CV twice.' Don't sweat that.

However, putting down a contact from a competing bank might be a bad move... never had experience or heard of someone who did that so I can't say what might happen, but probably isn't too good. I doubt it's an instant-ding unless you had to put down its contact information though.

Thanks for the responses. It only asked for a name and the extent of my relationship with them. No email address, phone number etc.

Do you think it would be prudent to withdraw the application then re-apply with a different email address?
