Is it okay to tell your story in the cover letter?

Is it okay to tell your story in the cover letter?

story as in something more personal, why you decided on IBD. Maybe 2-3 lines max...

PIGS, from what I hear cover letters are rarely, if ever, read so I don't think putting the story down on paper will really matter in a significant way. You can rationalize it by saying there's a tiny chance it might help you on the off-chance they do read it, but there's also that tiny chance it could hurt you. I doubt it matters either way but best of luck

Anyone who is recruiting for IB will be reading through dozens or hundreds of resumes. In the off chance they read your cover letter you are best served selling your accomplishments instead of your story. The goal of a cover letter is to get the person reading it to keep it out of the trash can. Selling what you have done instead of why you did it will serve you better in that regard.
