I am freshman who is transferring and Im basically not sure my plans for the summer. I thought I was going to take summer classes but looking at what some people in my year or older have done this summer most have some basic finance internship. At what point is it "too late" to contact local financial services companies to ask about intern opportunities?

Brief background: I'm a junior at a non-target, engineering major with good GPA, I have two previous IB internships, but I'm currently struggling to find an internship for this summer in NYC.
Is it too late to find a paid internship at this point, or even an unpaid internship? I've been reaching out to as many boutiques, but unfortunately no traction yet.
