Is there a difference? - Valuation firm
Hi All,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been on the site for a few months, but I guess this is my first real q:
I've been at a valuation firm (doing mostly shareholder buyouts, not doing any financial reporting support) for around 6 months, and I've done two or three valuations. Now, the valuations I've seen/done have always been based on comparables (based on historic data/point in time), but I've read a lot about the modelling aspect on this site.
Just wondering, am I missing something? Is there a difference in valuation techniques b/w a valuation firm and ibank?
Thanks in advance.
ND
Seems to have gotten buried. I would like to see the answers to the OP questions, so...BUMP!
Regards
I think there should be a lot of overlap b/t these two fields. In other words, your skills developed in valuation firm could translate well into IB.
In a similar situation as the OP, though with more diversity in valuing holding and operational companies, obscure financial assets, goodwill impairment testing/quantification, etc. Mostly for reporting or estate planning purposes.
Has anyone here made that switch before? Any advice on how to do it if so?
