Is there a way to find the name for private companies by industry

If I wanted to identify consumer retail companies that are private, is there a way to do so? I am able to gather names for companies by industry via advanced search on sec.com, but unsure as to how to ascertain names for private companies.

Are there certain softwares or databases that people who are already working in the industry have access to?
