Is there any advantage to knowing multiple languages in IB
Obviously not at the junior level but is there any advantage to bankers who are able to speak multiple languages in sourcing deals? I really can't imagine there is too much since English has really become the global standard, but curious to hear if Im missing anything. Maybe also aside from IB, do you guys see any notable advantage of being able to speak many languages when climbing the corporate ladder
Not really. Maybe you can say more than Gracias when the cleaning lady comes by your desk to pick up your trash
It depends on your location. In London knowing EU languages is very valuable, as people prefer speaking their own language on the continent. You'll see in fact that plenty of PE funds look for people who know at least 1.
In the US, I guess Spanish may be useful for some groups, but definitely not as useful as in London.
In the EU it’s almost a requirement. In the US, it doesn’t really make a difference, save for LatAm groups
more important in EU/Asia
