Is this normal for a rejection letter?

I received a rejection letter written to me by the HR coordinator at a Baird/Blair/ Lincoln saying that they have filled their lateral analyst role, but the position may be reopen in Q1 of 2020, and ask me to apply if I’m still interested. The email come didn’t come from an automatic system, it came from the HR persons email. Does that mean I’m gaining some traction in my application?

I would imagine Lincoln might have done this but can’t see Blair or Baird to do it as their recruiting group seems pretty robust. In other words, Lincoln has more of a boutique shop vibe than the other two which makes the recruiters value the applicants more than Baird / Blair which attracts a strong number of quality applicants.

Obviously, if you got that letter for Blair or Baird then I would imagine that the recruiters might have actually liked you and your candidacy would be favorably considered during Q1.

Lincoln sent me a rejection that was worded slightly different than the standard “after careful review of your application, we have decided to move on with candidates that more closely match this position” blah blah

Basically it said they had already finished SA recruiting but mentioned the FT timeline and encouraged me to apply then with an updated resume. No clue if this is the standard for them but was a nice break from the usual rejections lol

ok. Perhaps encouraging words sound corny. Nonetheless I suggest you use the experience to self-motivate. This business is hard. Getting in and getting a shot is really hard. Not sure what else you're looking for. You're going to need to continue to self-motivate and keep the fire in the belly burning. You do it in whatever way you see fit.
