JP Morgan IBD Non-Target Analyst Recruiting

Had a friend got an offer from this, candidates range from recent graduate to 1st year analyst. And they are joining the 2014 analyst pool. Has anyone heard about this before? Networking or online app? Is this a routine happening every year?

Every large bank has this... I interviewed at multiple banks 1 year our of college trying to lateral from a VC fund to BB IB. They put me in the non-target applicants pool. I don't really get why this seems too weird.

Also, back in college I got a JPM internship just through an online application. Granted that was probably more easy, but I don't know why this seems like it is outrageous. Sometimes it just works out...
