JP Morgan Leveraged Finance
I am beginning my placement process as a Summer Analyst with JP Morgan and was wondering if anyone has some perspective on JPM Lev Fin. I know it is consistently ranked #1 on the street and is in their investment banking division, but I have heard very mixed reviews as to how it places in PE. Some people tell me it is a great path to PE while others say it isn't great. Any advice would be great. Thanks.
it's freakin JP and it's lev finance. I'm sure it's completely fine for PE.
It has better placement at an AM firm, primarily an AM firm focused heavily on debt, than it would PE. You won't be fully disregarded for PE, but its not as attractive as M&A.
Thanks- I just have heard very mixed reviews and want to make sure I am setting myself up well. From what I understand, their lev fin team places well into debt/credit HF's.
Any specific groups at JPM that are regarded as "prime" for PE?
1) JPM 2) Lev Fin 3) JPM
.
Have several friends at JPM. Avoid their SLF group if your goal is PE. M&A and coverage are better bets. Yes, it's one of the top in lev fin and it's under IBD (so are ECM and DCM by the way...) but it's not very common for their analysts to go into PE. It's more of a "lifestyle group" with relatively sane hours. Quite a few people stay on as associate and become lifelong lev fin people...

Anyone know about culture/exit ops, etc. in JP's SLF (leveraged finance) group?
one of JPM's only reputable groups.
.
how do you have their industry/product groups ranked?
M&A and CHR is strong as well.
JPM M&A, is not strong AT ALL.
What M&A groups are strong other than MS?
I think it was supposed to 'other than' MS. I know Citi M&A isn't great but would you take that over other top groups at Citi?
GS (but this can be debated due to no minimal specialization CS in Tech M&A UBS M&A Lazard NYC Evercore Greenhill Gleacher
PWP might turn out to be Bankstars too. They have alot of hitters.
what are JP lev fin exit ops like? what kind of hours do they work?
Hours probobly are same as street, it's all dependent at a bulge you shouldn't be asking what the hours are like unless you are a pussy. Just work your ass off (you should want to), so you learn a lot.
You will rarely see a JPM guy exit into a top shop after an analyst stint, but I know of a guy at American Capital.
What about ML's Lev fin exit opps?
whats the word on JPM in chicago?
Not that great a shop
Which one?
heading says JPM chicago, and i agree.
If you're going to bank in the midwest it's UBS or CS, GS is ok too.
GS doesn't have an M&A group..
which post are you referring to? GS does well in M&A, but you're right they don't have an M&A group, but their M&A is respected. I thought that my prior post said that.
BB.MandA.3rdyear, ever heard of a little bank known as Morgan Stanley?
Yup, I actually work at that little shop.
