JPM M&A vs Coverage Culture

title says it all. curious on differences in group culture / hours between m&a and coverage. how is m&a culture? would also love to hear about comp across groups as well as if doing M&A first and then moving to coverage makes more sense from a career standpoint and at what level to make the jump.

thanks!

M&A culture is good, ideally better than some coverage groups because they have so many analysts. something like 30 first-years in M&A. They exit well and spend a lot of time prepping for recruiting

used to be as toxic and sweaty as GS FIG but has improved quite a bit in last couple years, especially the verticals where the citi seniors are leading. Incredible deal flow so still busy

Chillest group at the bank tbh. Really cool seniors and culture. Good WLB, use to run Barry gym classes or something like that. Have heard talk that Jamie laid the hammer on the seniors making calls for juniors to MF this past on-cycle this month though. If true would largely affect PE placements going forward. Solution would be to get close to the seniors so he still does though.
