Laid off right before promotion cycle
I was an analyst for ~3 years at one of the balance sheet banks. Unfortunately, I got laid off before the promotion cycle. Is it possible to get an associate role elsewhere or would I need to redo another analyst year? kind of stuck right now because I really don't want to do another year as an analyst.
Depends what kind of bank was this? Was this Canada or the US?

Sounds like Numura Greentech or Mizuho. What were the reasons they gave you?

Mostly likely another year. Breaking through is really important
Any update OP?
Sounds like BMO/TD. They lay everyone off without warning prior to promotion. Lateral
Based on experience, this occurs when there is no apparent performance issue otherwise OP would be on a PIP. Usually, these surprise layoffs are driven by budget cuts, head count issues, and often these days to enforce gender quotas (DEI is key metric for Group Heads so they enforce them for personal gains)
