are you tapping into existing network or cold emailing to analysts/associates from similar backgrounds?

bump - should you include why you wanna lateral into their group?

i'm planning on just saying i wanna lateral since i'm reaching out to groups with job postings online

I approached cold emails in two ways:

  1. Analyst/Associate: introduce myself and say something about how I’m interested in lateraling to their group or IB. Give a one liner about my current employment experience then close with how I’d like to learn more about the team.
  1. VP - MD: Introduce myself and point out that they are recruiting for X role. Give more details about work experience and how it would make me a great candidate for a role at their bank. I would make my desire to work at their bank more direct.

Analyst/Associates will give good feedback on the current state of the culture you will be working in. In my recent experience, Associates (2s) through VPs handle the recruiting efforts. VP through MD can get you put in the recruiting mix immediately. Caveat: I have a lengthy industry experience and related work experience, so not the average candidate.

how do you end the networking calls - do you ask to be put into the interview process or ask that person to refer someone else for me to speak to?
