Lateral Networking Emails
What’s the best way to start networking for a lateral in terms of the email. How do you cold email without being too obvious you’re trying to leave (given it’ll be obvious enough anyways).

Just keep it to a succinct intro and attach your resume. We’re all playing the same game
Should you mention wanting to lateral or just like a intro/catch up call?
Just mention youd like an intro chat to learn more about their group - coming from someone who lateraled from a no name boutique to a solid MM coverage group last summer

Personally been hinting at the lateral in cold emails and it's yielded positive results. Depends on the person you're hitting up though I'm sure
are you tapping into existing network or cold emailing to analysts/associates from similar backgrounds?
Mostly cold emails. People I'm already cool with I just tell them straight up that I'm lookin to make a switch and they hook it up
What do you put in the subject line?
for lateral resumes are you guys putting Education under Work Experience?
also do yall have a section for Selected Transaction Experience?
bump - should you include why you wanna lateral into their group?
i'm planning on just saying i wanna lateral since i'm reaching out to groups with job postings online
I approached cold emails in two ways:
Analyst/Associates will give good feedback on the current state of the culture you will be working in. In my recent experience, Associates (2s) through VPs handle the recruiting efforts. VP through MD can get you put in the recruiting mix immediately. Caveat: I have a lengthy industry experience and related work experience, so not the average candidate.
Quick question, when you say related exp do you mean 1) IB exp or 2) some similar enough role (PE/Corp Dev/Corp Fin)?
how do you end the networking calls - do you ask to be put into the interview process or ask that person to refer someone else for me to speak to?
One thing that worked for me was reaching out to associates that lateraled to the bank as well as a point of first contact. They went thru the exact same process i was trying to get into and were more willing to help.
