Lateral Superday: how long wait?
I had a lateral associate 0m position Superday yesterday at 3pm. Still haven't heard back after 24 hours.
The interviews were good Imo, the head of the department discussed hobbies with me. He said we might need you to meet a few more people then, he also said if I wanted to speak to a few people he can arrange that.
Post interviews, I send my thank yous. HR said they will bring touch ASAP. One of the interviewers replied something generic Thanks, good to speak.
For context, it's an ad-hoc hire and I'm probably the only candidate in the pipeline.
Am I overthinking this? Please help any advice is appreciated.
UPDATE: so the head of HR (who was my point of contact for the interview process) emailed me saying "Would you have 30mins free on Monday next week to speak to me on a zoom call? This is in relation the role in our team".
How likely is it that it's a rejection and they are being polite?
In context, the role is pretty open where the team decides which level of An/As level I join.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for lateral processes to have some variability in response times, especially for ad-hoc hires. While some firms may provide feedback within 24 hours, others can take several days or even weeks, depending on internal decision-making and scheduling logistics.
Here are a few key points to consider:
Ad-Hoc Hire Timing: Since this is an ad-hoc hire and you're likely the only candidate in the pipeline, the process might be less structured. This could mean a slightly longer wait as they finalize internal discussions.
Follow-Up: You've already sent thank-you notes, which is great. If you don't hear back within 3-5 business days, it's reasonable to send a polite follow-up email to HR or the interviewer who mentioned arranging additional meetings.
Positive Signs: The head of the department discussing hobbies and offering to arrange further conversations is a good indicator of interest. However, it might also mean they want to ensure alignment with other team members before making a final decision.
Patience is Key: While it's natural to overthink, try to remain patient. Lateral processes, especially for associate roles, can sometimes take longer than expected.
If you don't hear back soon, a gentle nudge to HR or the department head could help clarify the timeline. Good luck!

Bump
When I lateraled I pretty much knew during the final interview I was getting one. But they were not going through a structured process, they kept interviewing till they had the right one.
What did they say? I feel pretty good but the silence is killing me
Sounds like a lock ngl. Probably just running through admin items if anything
