Lateraling from Capital Markets?

I'm an incoming SA on the capital markets desk of a BB

I want to know my option to lateral into M&A if I do not like the job. Has anyone who has gone through the process or know someone who has provide any insights on the lateraling process. Should I recruit for FT opportunities if the SA experience wasn't good? Or should I wait to work full time for a while before asking to lateral?
