Lazard Middle Market Interview
So I have an interview coming up with Lazard MM and couldn't find much here specifically about their middle market practice. I just want to know some basic info about culture, hours, interview as opposed to Lazard the parent company. Is is that much different? or are they similar for the most part?
I know there isn't as much prestige compared to the parent company.
Also would like to know the hours because I am currently at a small boutique and want to know how the transition will be going from working normal hours to how the hours will be there.
Which city are you interviewing in? I assume it's for FT IB Analyst or lateral hire?
They are pretty different- but as the above poster stated, it would be good to know for which office (can PM me if you don't want to post it on here since they are very small). The offices have different focuses (for example Charlotte is entirely healthcare). They operate very separate from the parent company working on (as the name says) smaller middle market deals. I think they may get cross-staffed with Lazard (parent) on occasion, but I'm not 100% sure on that. While there isn't the prestige of the parent, the name itself is a good one to have, and it also does not have the same reputation as a sweatshop the way Lazard (parent) does. Culture varies by office- interview questions were pretty standard.
^^ Oh yeah, that would help if I included that. It is in NYC and for their FIG Group and as a 2nd year analyst.
I have heard lots about Lazard(parent) and not doesn't sound too intriguing to me, thats why I'm trying to find out more about Lazard MM. Either way it is still step up from my currently place.
Can't speak for Laz MM in NYC or FIG, but it isn't quite as bad as the parent in other groups/locations in terms of hours and culture. But again, NYC may be more akin to the parent Co. Hopefully someone else can clarify for you.
Good luck.
Lazard First Round Interview - Modeling/Technicals Test? Help (Originally Posted: 08/11/2015)
Hey buddies,
Got Lazard first round interview for an Asia office. I am still in undergrad. They want me to come in and do a "technicals test" on their computer.
What...? I have never heard of this before. Anyone can shed some light on this? What will they ask me to do?
Operating model probably.
Have you built one before?
Is this for full-time next year?
Happens all the time at banks. The amount of technical knowledge required has really skyrocketed in recent years. I would expect an operating model at least with probably some sort of valuation (DCF, precedent transactions, and comps) thrown in.
Interested in how did this go. Would appreciate if you could share.
Would love to hear about this as well - also, is this becoming common (even for NYC jobs)?
1 hour operating model. They give u 2011/2012 statements for a company and ask you to build an operating model for the next 5 years.
Then they have a computer-based set of questions on accounting and corporate finance.
For my office they also had a 1 hour translation test (pen and paper) for a language I put on my resume.
Seems like a slightly harder version of the Houlihan Lokey process. Kind of overkill for an interview though...
very tech, Lazard is a tech-Q-based interview corp, one-hour modeling and corporate finance test and then three 1-1 interviews with analysts and associates. oh and also one-hour translation test since I am a native Chinese speaker, english->chinese, I don't know whether they really read it or not.

Hi All,
I have searched the forums but am looking for updated information on Lazard MM's reputation and any insight into how interviews are run at the firm. I have a first round coming up and was an SA at a BB.
Thx!
Rep does not matter...in my opinion just rock out a job and then move to PE is a couple years

Anyone been through the Lazard First-Round IBD interview?
I was wondering about the type of questions they will ask. I've received mixed messages on how technical or how fit based the interview is so any comments on the interview are appreciated!
I just had one. I think I am over prepared. Not very technical, feel they just wanted to know who you are a person. They did ask a lot of random/interesting questions. Overall, relatively relax and friendly atmosphere.
Have a first round coming up - would love any insight on what to expect for technicals.
When'd you apply/ get the interview?
