Lazard RX - 2026 Views (Chicago & NYC)
Curious to hear more about Lazard’s RX reputation. How has the Chicago office been performing? I’ve heard mixed things about Laz RX, but I used to hear great things about their Chicago restructuring practice. Would love to hear some thoughts.
Heard they have to compete with Ensis partners on deals and exits have been poor
Any more comment on the exits?
Wondering on how it compares to HL RX, particularly in chicago
HL RX CHI and LAZ RX CHI are on similar tiers but HL is the better one.
Laz Chi typically handles unsecured creditors while HL Chi is debtor/secured creditor
Former NYC RX banker here who did not work at HL or Lazard. Lot of misinformation here.
HL is the better franchise overall obviously but out of those two Chicago shops, Lazard is the better seat for culture and exits.
Franchise fell off a cliff. NY RX used to be top shop but now have terrible junior retention and seniors can’t land mandates
Largely fallen off and is not really a top tier RX shop anymore
No where near PJT/EVR
Fast-sinking ship, avoid like the plague. Continually loses debtor mandates to PJT / EVR and creditor-side deals to HL. Still a legacy platform with somewhat good exits for now, but the trajectory is clearly getting worse. Feels like the next PWP in 2 years
CHI group has awesome culture and the juniors there work on cooler deals than NYC despite being cross-staffed. That said, as mentioned above, overall junior retention is heinous. The group has become pretty pretentious given that it’s a shell of its former self. Time for them to close the yearbook
