Leveraging EB offer to get a better group at BB? - London
Hi Monkeys,
I have accepted an offer after summer internship at a BB, and managed to secure a FT offer at EB through recruiting after summer (I did not like my group hence tried to win an offer elsewhere).
Do you think I can use this offer and leverage it to get another group at the BB?
Can only blow back on you - why would you recruit somewhere else if you actually planned on take their offer. I would have had the discussion about your group directly after recieving the offer if that was the issue. I would have said look I love the culture of the firm but I am not really interested in the sector etc.. Also this is super late to have such a discussion as FT recruiting for your BB would have already been done and headcount is pretty much set from their perspective.
I have had the discussion and was informed that they cannot guarantee me a spot in another team. Pretty much was left with either taking the offer or rejecting it any being left with nothing.
So tell them to fuck off now and go to your EB and see if they offer you another team but would not count on it. Assume the EB is fully aware you would be reneging the BB offer?
It doesn't sound like a good idea to me, it can only backfire. Either go to the EB if you really are unhappy about your team, or stick with it and try to move later.
Why would it backfire if I indicated strong preference to change teams? Also the BB offer is not group specific (at least on paper).
I think it's all about how you frame it.
You could go back to the BB and mention how passionate you are about some other group and then mention that an EB made you an offer, but you'd rather work at BB and were wondering if it might be possible to get placement in that group.
I think if you phrase like that it should be fine, just don't be threatening/demanding. Also BB places much better for PE recruiting, so worth the risk for exits i'd say.
Thanks a lot. By no means I want to threaten them, just trying to make it work out.
Yeah, I'd go for it - nothing to lose, everything to gain. Not like their going to call the EB and tell them, if they did you can sue.. It's a way worse look for them if they do anything.
I see it as just being transparent, you'd rather work there, they valued you enough to give an offer, may as well ask them.
