Lifting pre-covid IB

Hey everyone - when I was networking a few people told me they used to step away for an hour a day during 6-8ish to get a quick lift in. Are most groups accommodating assuming not urgent? I don't think mine is, but I've gained a ton of weight during WFH so I need to be more active and don't care if it hurts my ranking.

If there's nothing urgent, you should be able to step away to grab a workout / exercise. Gotta get that lift in!

COVID has been brutal for weight gain... that's what happens when there is no spring break.

Just wondering how that would work given you need to shower after? Even stepping away for 15 min now I feel like I'm doing something I'm not supposed to

You take a shower after you work out. No one wants to smell your workout when you get back to your cubicle. Basic hygiene was encouraged pre-COVID. I imagine it will be post-COVID as well.

You have to learn to manage your time and set boundaries - it sounds like you have not. Ask senior analysts and associates what they do for working out and how they handle it. Unless there's something urgent, people are generally accommodative towards taking a break to work out.

Yes I workout during the day. With WFH, the time I go varies depending on my schedule. Sometimes it’s 10am, 12:30pm, 3:30pm, 6pm, 8pm, etc. You just have to learn to manage your schedule / deadlines. There are plenty of emails that can wait 30/45 minutes for a workout / shower or can be answered on your phone while you workout. If you let more senior bankers walk all over you they will. As the VP said above, I think WFH stopped first years from seeing how analysts handle these things. Work should never stop you from taking care of yourself, even a demanding job like this. Have a backbone, go workout, and send that file from the dataroom that your VP asked you to download for him and send to him 30 minutes later. The world won’t end, your review won’t be tanked, and you will be happier and healthier. The only time people should get mad at you if you decided to be out of pocket for less than an hour is if you went at time you know you were supposed to be available. Like you had a call for a model walkthrough and missed it because you were working out. If you have common sense you won’t do that. Whenever I see I have some down time and don’t have anything urgently to handle, I go for my workout
