Low Cost Areas in NYC?
Hey Guys, I am a senior that received a FT for IB in NYC and am now looking for a place to live. Ideally, I'd love to find a studio apartment but not have to pay too much. Does anybody have any recommendations? Any areas that are known for being particularly inexpensive? Thanks
low cost in nyc is an oxymoron in itself. good luck.
Relative Terms Buddy, Dont be a Dick
Wasn't trying to be a dick at all, was just sayin
FiDi comes to mind or above 95th Street.
Bushwick is very low cost. Go for it!
Hoboken
battery park. tons of young finance people
FiDi or Hoboken if you're strapped.
whats FiDi?
FiDi = Financial District, basically south of City Hall not counting Battery Park
living close to the office > living cheap
I'd say live closer to the office and get a roommate to share a 1 br.
Central Park West is probably a good place to start looking
Midtown West can be cheap but out of the way from many banking areas (FiDi, Park Ave in the 50's)
Upper UWS is cheap but subway connection sucks
Upper UES is cheap but going out on Fridays/Saturdays sucks since cab fares are $$$
Hoboken really isn't that cheap as well. Plenty of people I know are paying more then their counterparts in NYC.
If you're a banker...living in Hoboken is downright embarrasing.
It's not feasible at all.
IF YOU'RE IN BANKING , YOU'RE LIVING IN MANHATTAN. PERIOD.
AT 4AM, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE FUN TO COMMUTE TO NJ OR THE BURROUGHS
AMEN, I am
I second the UWS, especially if you don't mind a bit of a walk to the subway, you can find good deals west of Columbus Ave and north of 72nd street. It has a pretty decent bar scene too and the 2/3 almost never shuts down.
I found some decent places in midtown east, 2nd ave around 40s. not really all the close to banking but the 4,5,6 take u right into FiDi. or if ur working in midtown, walking aint too bad... except during the bitter cold - god last winter was brutal!
How long does it take to get from Midtown to Hoboken by car, cab, public? It's about 7 miles right?
