Lowkey — Why the Hate?

Like I get that your summer internship and getting a return offer is important in this industry, but we straight up got mfs vowing to grind day and night to get revenge on MS management for low return offer rates. Kids out here ready to sacrifice their first born child to get vengeance on Gordon. Like that thread is not real lol. It's a summer internship not the fate of your bloodline, relax.

It’s tough to tell a Rosshole who doesn’t have a personality beyond banking that not getting a return is not the end end of the world.

Super easy for you to say when you're not in that situation huh?

Put yourself in their shoes. You just lost an offer at a top bank in a terrible economy for FT recruiting. All these kids will most likely have to take a downgrade for their FT role, which will likely negatively affect their early career trajectory. Obviously, careers are long but it’s easy to focus on the short term effects as a college senior.

Agreed. I think it’s also the case that many of them were given false (implicit) promises, took abuse they thought was contingent on a return offer, and likely feel as if their lives are much worse for not having been one year older.

That being said, I hope people become more grateful for any role in this industry. Some of us worked hard to land at an MM, and appreciate every day of it. For an MS intern who didn’t get a return offer to condescend upon that is a massive turn-off.

OK but if the point was to be a baller when you’re 40-50 years old, how important is this?  Talk to the most successful people  in that age range and you’ll see that very few of them started their career on track.  In most cases they switched not only jobs but entire careers before going in the right direction.

Controversial

Nah I'm pro-Gorman, he's always 10 steps ahead. Let's think about the implications of this move...

MS's SA class of 2024 is going to put all hardos who've ever come before them, and every hardo that will ever come after them, to pitiful shame.

I'm talking about the most throbbing Kelley Boners you've ever seen; the greasiest Rossholes alive. Think of the sweatiest Indian international with an A name that goes to Stern, now double that.

MS back on top, baybee.

The IU Mafia is going to swoop in and take over, evangelically converting all fellow interns into insufferable hardos.

I know so many sweaty Indian internationals with A names it’s not even a joke

I mean anyone who doesn't go BB is basically living in poverty in the current year 2023.

Think about it, IB is like the lowest paying job for a college grad. AI and Prop Trading roles knocked it down many rungs. On top of that, you work like 200 hours a week. Whereas there are plenty of other jobs that pay $200K direct out of undergrad which only require 30 hour weeks and +/-  75 IQ.

Lool good luck getting into prop trading with that 75 IQ man. Compare the number of seats that you would consider “Quant” to IB. It’s not even close. These positions are few and far between and are taken by the USAMO and ISEF winners. IB is still the best first (realistic) job out of undergrad comp-wise for bright kids outside of maybe swe.

I was mocking the stupid shit people say on here acting like IB is a pleeb job

“IB is like the lowest paying job for a college grad”

Unsure how many of my brain cells just got deleted reading that.

I was mocking the shit people have been saying on here about how IB allegedly only pays equal to other corporate jobs and takes 3 times the hours, allegedly. Obviously it's stupid, I just think it's funny to repeat it because it's so dumb.

Not in this situation, but if I was my reaction would be: Bro I do not care. MS pure incompetency led to them hiring too many interns, interns who could have taken offers elsewhere, interns who grinded their ass of for a spot. Just because the bank treats you like like literal dirt and just a number, doesn't mean that you can't have self respect for yourself and a backbone. Just because the bank killed the trajectory of a number of top kids careers so the borderline retarded HR reps can meet their diversity targets. Pure incompetence which has led to interns having to go through months of stress and depression in FT recruiting. I would swear on the health of my entire bloodline that I would do everything in my power to seek vengeance on MS. If you don't have principles then what are you.

What exactly was MS’s offer rate this year? I think anything upwards of 55-60% can be justified

terrible that bank treats its interns like dirt too do not join under any circumstance
