lying about your GPA, revising it down!??
i went to a school that gave out A+s, and my GPA was 4.1. On my resume I have 4.1/4.0 but I am thinking of revising this down to 4.0/4.0. i don't want to seem too obssessed with academics (i know, how is a 4.0 less geeky than 4.1? thing is when i see kids from my school with >4 GPA on their resumes i don't think "oh what a superstar", i think "jesus christ you care too much about studying")
do you think this is fine to mark your GPA down?

How about this - put your real gpa on your resume... so that if you make it all the way to the offer stage you won't come back and fret about how your gpa is different than the one you wrote on your resume
Or just put "better than fucking perfect biotch" and show up for the interview with servants carrying you in a litter, with flowing Moroccan robes, hooka, concubines and all. They'll like that. Just be sure to alert Bess Levin beforehand, we'd all like this captured in real time.
Put your real GPA. Frankly, downplaying your GPA raises questions same as upstating your GPA. Granted, it isn't nearly as big a deal as lying and marking your GPA up but still. Not worth all the hassles. Be proud that you have such excellent grades.
If your school gives A+'s, wouldn't your gpa be out of 4.3? I feel like listing your gpa as a 4.0 out of 4.0 would be grounds for your offer to be pulled (unless of course, you actually haven't gotten a grade below an A). Listing a 4.1/4.0 will just make you look retarded.
Your gpa isn't out of 4, it's clearly out of a higher number. Put the real gpa. When people see 4.1/4.0 they don't think "this kid studies too much", they think "how did he get a 4.1 if his gpa scale only goes up to 4.0?"
I think this kid prob goes to ross. They tell us to put our gpas out of 4.0 even though its technically possible to get as high as a 4.4 if you A+ every class you're in (nearly impossible). I'm sure hr/recruiters know this
I definitely wouldn't revise down your GPA. It's something to be proud of, and it will definitely help you stand out.
If there's one precaution I'd take, it would be to make sure that you definitely come across as very personable in all interviews/interactions. Second, I'd make sure to include a few interesting interests on your resume at the bottom, which will help you connect with your interviewers/grab the attention of people reading your resume. You want to neutralize the perception that you're an unsocial nerd who just studies all day - and this is absolutely possible if you do these two things.
Lastly, I think putting 4.1/4.0 is just silly. Why not put 4.1 and leave off the denominator if you're concerned? It'll be clear either way that you've done fantastic since everyone considers GPAs at U.S. schools to be out of 4 anyways.
My school also gives out A+ and I have wondered about the same thing. What I did was I just put my GPA without the "/4.0" or "/4.3".
being allowed to get over an A is one of the dumbest fucking things i've heard in a while. Can u get below an F also? Like a F- where you automatically fail another class. Its hard enough to get a god damn job right now without having other schools giving out grades above A's. I wudda gotten like 7 of those but my school wasnt fukin retarded....sry i got a little mad there, put 4.0. 4.1 makes you seem pretentious and/or lying
agreed in that seems pretentious.
Having said that, these A+'s were NOT easy. typically only the top 1 or 2 students in the class get them (at least at my school). in one of my classes i got 100s on every test/hw, and i would have been a little miffed if i got the same grade as the dude who got 85-90 average (which was in the "A" range). obviously then the curve should be change to make (for example) 85-90 be in the "B+" range or whatever.
my transcript is pretty inconsitent actually. about half the classes i got B, B+ range, and the other i got A+ range. had there been no A+s my GPA would have been closer to 3.5
My school (target) also gives out A+ and I assure you those aren't easy to come by. in a class of 120 kids, maybe 2 or 3 (max) will get it. And plus, not every class gives out A+, which is why no one has ever gotten a 4.3 GPA in this history of this school.
I never really understood that... if not all classes gives out A+ to the top scorers, then how is that fair? It doesn't even make sense to put that your GPA is out of 4.3 then, since it'd be literally impossible to actually score that high overall unless you gamed the system to take only classes that did offer A+.
