M7 MBA students. Missed out on full time IB recruiting. I landed an internship with smaller oil and gas IB firm. Can I still get in with a BB oil and gas division?

My background is reservoir engineer at Exxon. I'm at an M7. I wanted to do consulting. Well effing struck out on Mck BCG. I'm rethinking what it is I want to do. I want to do, I know strike me down, oil and gas private equity. I'm aware of the risks/volatility very well. Eventually owning a small oil company after that.

I think getting into oil and gas banking is my next step. Well, I really would like a name like GS, JPM and not this small company (btw this is what they do: arranges private placements of debt and equity capital as well as mergers, acquisitions and sales for middle market companies) because PE firms will be more likely to want me with a big name.

SO, given my background of an undergrad/masters in petroleum engineering, work at Exxon, small oil and gas IB firm (definitely wouldn't recruit at an M7), can I realistically apply to JPM, GS, Jeffries, Barclays, Citigroup in their oil and gas IB division and get a job or am I toast since I didn't get a BB internship? Knowing what's likely will help me know how to move forward as I'm extremely stressed.

Citi, JPM, and Jeff, are always churning through people in their Houston offices. Even if you spend 8 months at this smaller place (it’s not Simmons is it?) keep an eye out for lateral opportunities if you can’t switch over after the internship.

My guess is some additional FT spots will be available as the energy market is in a much better spot now than it was when intern staffing decisions were made. Keep an eye on JPM for FT, they usually have spots as they are notorious for not taking their interns.

They do have postings on the school's career site for full time right? They're obviously there for Internships, but wondering if they'll be there next year. Also, I'm going to sign up for as many coffee chats as possible because I know BB posted 1 on 1 networking opportunities for at least interns.

Which O&G IB? If it’s one of the four main O&G IBs (TPH, Intrepid, Simmons, Petrie), you should have absolutely no problem recruiting for too BB roles.
