Management Associates @ HSBC, StanChart, Citi etc

Hey guys, I am currently interviewing with HSBC, StanChart and Citi for their Management Associate programs. Just wondering what will the exit ops be considering that these MA programs actually rotate you from front -> mid -> back office roles and you might end up in a back office role after the program.

An example of such a program: http://www.standardchartered.com/careers/associat…mba/wharton_school.html

PS: Graduated from a target school but have been unable to find any positions in IBD or S&T. I currently have an offer for a F500 leadership program which pays pretty decent and the work does seem a tad more interesting than the MA.

Thanks!

Hi, I have heard from bankers who have undergone the MA program that it will be very difficult to lateral into IB directly. You will usually need an MBA to successfully transition over to IB. Also, if you are posted to a position in, say, the retail banking side, you will most likely stay within the boundaries of the retail bank (limited exit ops).

Good thing is that usually they will pay for your MBA program, which will save you a huge chunk of $$. And you get in-depth first-hand experience of the workings of a commercial bank. Though that usually means you're gonna have to be stuck in there for a pretty long time. Hope this helps!
