I have a friend who was a marketing and management major at a target school who is trying to break into investment banking. They have some basic finance and accounting background. What are some good ways to sell this to the banks during analyst interviews?

I think it's easier than you'd think, especially if your friend has an internship under his belt. Every single pitch you do as an analyst is pretty much a presentation of marketing materials, as you're trying to win business. At the senior level, you're pretty much a marketer/salesman. He can say he's interested in coverage groups and his marketing and management background gives him a diverse look at how a business is run, which is important for projections.
As long as he pushes that he's got the financial background and knowledge, I think the marketing could help him diversify a little bit.

Hey everyone. I am currently doing an undergrad in marketing but recently discovered that I want to go into finance. Specifically investment banking and later hedge fund management. I am aware of the brutally competitve nature of breaking into this industry and am wondering if there is any way I can still manage to make the merge into finance from my field. I go to a Canadian non target university by the way. All advice is appreciated. Thank you.
