Meeting with a partner

Hey, so I am a soph. at a non-target and recently sent out dozens of emails to alums and got a hit. I am meeting at Starbucks with a partner from William Blair. This meeting is a surprise and I am very unprepared.

The meeting is next week I have basic I-Banking knowledge, and really don't know what question to ask him.

How do I maximize my chances for getting a summer BO or PWM gig?

Bonus question, what the GPA min for non target, I looked at 100's of threads and they all have the different answer. Some suggest 3.3, other suggest 4.0 or 3.5. So where should my GPA be at. Right now its a 3.79.

Thanks

He's probably not going to grill you on your I-Banking knowledge. You already know what to ask him - "How do I maximize my chances for getting a summer BO or PWM gig?" just relax and have a nice conversation.

As for your GPA, as high as possible.

Sod BO/PWM - if you're a sophomore, you're eligible for IBD internships. Maybe not at a BB (unless you're URM/female), but certainly at any number of MMs/boutiques/Big4/whatever.

Position yourself well (know your basic technicals and try to not be some sort of socially inept awkward turtle) and you might as well gun for an internship at WB. You're already part of the way there...

You're definitely in the right ballpark, if not ahead of the game, in terms of your GPA. Regarding the meeting, just show your true self and have a genuine conversation. Ask about what you're really curious about, and don't just ask questions for the sake of asking questions. Demonstrate your interest and show that you want to learn more. And don't forget to ask for the partner to refer you to others at his office, or at his firm in general.
