Mental Health & Anxiety at Work

Really curious to hear people's responses to the 4 following questions:

1. Do you (or have you ever) struggled with work related anxiety, depression or mental stress

2. Does your company offer some form of counseling or therapy through their benefits program? If not, do you wish they did?

3. If yes to 1 & 2, have you ever used the provided counseling / therapy services offered? If not, why not?

4. What do you feel is the overall perception of admitting to mental health struggles at your workplace?

Feel free to answer some or all of these. For background, I have been seeing a counselor for the past two years and have also been on anti-depressants. Anxiety and depression are a constant struggle from me, and I want a better understanding of people's general perception of the topic, especially coming from demanding careers like many of the people on this forum have.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. Highly encourage getting some form of help -- at the very least it can't hurt trying. Especially if the provided resources from your firm are anonymous, it really can only help. It definitely doesn't "solve" your problems, nor is that the goal of counseling, but it can absolutely help. Hope topics and forums like this help bring the issue to light. Thanks again!

  1. Every day
  2. Not at all
  3. N/A
  4. I've brought it up generally during private meetings with Partners when we're talking about my future, in the context of seeking some sort of break or ending my program earlier than is standard (didn't work). 100% agree with the "suffer in silence." All my peers know I hate it here but senior folks don't have a real sense, and people don't bring it up because we know it wouldn't be taken well / wouldn't be understanding.
