Work at a top shop in Houston and can’t say I have come across Moelis on any of my deals. The do some cross-border transactions - I believe their Dubai-based team is quite strong.
They just poached one MD (maybe 2?) from Citi to lead their clean energy practice
Checked it out and press release says an MD from Citi and then a current Moelis banker who moved from MS last year will be co-leading the group
They poached the only Houston CET MD, a VP, and a Senior Associate, as well as a M&A head.
CET has lost others in NYC to a co-head who left.
Moelis is impressive wherever they go
Middle of the pack for EBs in terms of dealflow/exits in Houston. Comp is the same as NYC and despite mediocre dealflow is a total sweatshop. Does better in RX than M&A for energy.
Only met them a few times in passing. Reputation is sweaty but also that people there seem happy for what it's worth. Might be a thing where it's like you know what you're signing up for. They do seem to do things for morale like once did box seats for an Astros game or other employee recreation events.
