Moelis or Rothschild for Exits/Prestige/Reputation/Deal flow
Asking specifically for London.
I understand Rothschild is the most prestigious non-bb bank in Europe (and ranks very high in league tables top 5), but how far behind is Moelis? I also understand that pay would be slightly superior at Moelis. Currently holding offers from both and deciding. (Both M&A/sector/rx)

Most people would pick Rothschild over anyone in Europe (perhaps with the exception of GS and MS).
Sounds like someone is at Rothschild.
(FWIW I can understand arguing Rothschild > Moelis, but stating that "Most people would pick Rothschild over anyone in Europe" is just silly)
Never heard of anyone pick RTH over GS/MS/JPM/PJT/LAZ and sometimes BAML/Citi/CS.. definitely a great shop with a strong dealflow, but you’ll work mainly on UK deals and culture isn’t great.. I’d take it over Moelis LDN hands down though

If you are from the UK the UK deal flow is an advantage

To OP’s question, Moelis is decent but not as strong as Rothschild. You need a solid network of European satellite offices with people on the ground to make an EMEA business work and the only places that have that are the big global banks, Lazard and Rothschild. Hence why those shops dominate the league tables and the other EBs do not.

I’d say Moelis only if you are very keen on Rx because their M&A presence is very weak here. If you are not sure just go for Rotschild
Did you intern at Moelis or get it through the interview process?
RS >>>> Moelis. Moelis has no deal flow, no decent exits to plain vanilla PEs (just Debt/ RX/ Special Sits shops), shit culture, lots of people from T5 banks as laterals and high turnover (75% of 2018 class is gone, majority to other banks)

Why do you say this as a negative thing? Maybe people who go for Moelis don’t care to go to a plain vanilla PE. Agree on RTH >>>>> Moelis though
Rothschild by far better in Europe. Moco dealflow in Europe is still very low and apparently US teams are feeding them with deals. I have 2 friends there, by 9pm they are home.
Home by 9pm? I'd take that.
