Morgan Stanley - Off-Cycle Internship conversion rate

Hi everyone,

I will start an IBD Off-Cycle internship at Morgan Stanley (London) in August and wanted to know what's the typical conversion rate for this kind of internships in the UK? Any insights on this?

Also, I have some full-time interview process at two EBs (in France) and I was wondering if I should be confident to convert as a full-time Analyst at MS or consider really seriously these FT opportunities?

Thanks a lot

Last year‘s conversion for similar timeframe was basically 100%. In any case OC is usually quite high.

Thank you very much, that’s helpful: indeed, I would ideally prefer to convert at MS since I really liked the people there and want to relocate to London.

Could I ask how do you know about the 100% conversion rate though? Is there a reason why the conversion rate for OC is that high? (Might be cultural, my understanding is that internships generally convert very well in the UK, which is not necessarily the case in France)

Combination of London headcount being a lot more than for continental offices and OC intern class being much smaller with higher quality / more experienced candidates compared to summer. Also consider MS rarely hires for FT directly, interns are their entire pipeline.

Source is I was in that intake.

Did off-cycle interviews for their CM team and asked this exact question, they said conversion is possible as long there is headcount. Naturally I assume in IBD there is usually more headcount every year as the CM teams are ran very lean. Would just take in mind that if markets are still shakey during your OC return offers probably will be lower than usual.

can you please provide some info on your application timeline? I just applied to MS Global Risk&Analysis OC this week and been wondering how long they usually take to get back to you if there is a fit

I find myself in the exact same situation; OC offer from MS IBD (london) and FT offer from MM. Considering I have 1.5yrs off internship experience, I am leaning towards FT offer, but converting from OC to FT at MS IBD would be the dream - any updated pointers?

From what i know MS typically has really good off-cycle conversion compared to summers, but of course, it's not a guarantee unlike the MM. maybe you could look into deferring the MM start date, but if not, I'd speak w ppl from both companies/teams to see what you want. if you're looking at exits, ofc MS would be most straightforward, but tbh, if you're at a good MM, lateraling to a top BB/EB would also be super straightforward, while still giving you the full-time experience and security. in this job market, i think a FT offer is the main goal, but really depends on what kinda work the MM you're gonna be at has. either way, you can't go wrong, and best of luck!
