Most Surprising Networking Experiences

I know everyone in the industry has had to have calls with kids from different colleges when going through recruiting and networking. Curious, from people's experiences, what are some of the most surprising networking experiences people have had?

For example, everyone knows that a Wharton kid will be well polished, but are there any non-targets or state schools that really wowed/impressed you all? Interested to hear about the "hidden gem" experiences some have had (can also be worst experiences for entertainment).

OP here, I'll start it off (don't have much details to add though, sorry). I had a call with one person from Oswego State in NY, and I was blown away by how knowledgeable and helpful the person was. Another from Murray State was incredibly smart, I could not believe it.
