MS Generalist NY

Looking for intel on Morgan Stanley's NY IBD Generalist program - specifically around group placement. Got an offer this past cycle and trying to get ahead of the process.

For context, the generalist program does pre-placement, so the placement process itself is a key variable going in. Wanted to hear from anyone who's been through it:

  • Which groups are worth targeting at the top of your list beyond M&A?
  • What actually moved the needle for landing your preferred placement — was pre-internship networking with bankers in your target groups helpful, or was it discouraged?
  • Any general advice on how the placement process works in practice vs. how it's described on paper?

Not a lot of public info out there on this so any firsthand experience is appreciated.
