Need advice on my internships options for this summer

Hey everyone,

I'm seeking guidance regarding my internships. I'm currently in my final year at a semi-target university in the UK and I haven't had much success securing an internship in Investment Banking.

Last year, I was only able to do a summer internship in Risk Management within private banking at a BB. And this summer, I have two options:

  1. Another summer internship at a BB, but this time in credit risk, which I believe might be more relevant.
  2. An internship in M&A at a top actuarial company.

I'm torn because I'm unsure about the nature of M&A work at an actuarial company and how relevant it would be for a career in IBD.

My ultimate plan is to pursue a Masters degree next year and reapply for summer analyst positions, this time in IBD. I'm wondering in order to maximise my chances if it would be best to go for the credit risk internship at a BB or if the actuarial M&A internship would be more useful as it might be more relevant to the field.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

Actuarial M&A internship - it’s even easier to sell in ur Sa24 interviews … u we’re doing risk management but wanted banking x,y,z reason and you took it upon urself to get in a role that provided a more transitory skill set that you could bring to the desk for SA24 blablabla…

You get the idea. I would do M&A internship
