Negotiated Merger vs. Sell-side / Buy-side deals?

In a negotiated merger, I’d assume that there are also two advisors for each respective party. In this case, is there still a distinct sell side vs buy side process? Or is the merger’s deal process & responsibilities for each advisor going to be more tailored for this specific transaction?
