Networking before internship start

Hi all

I’ll be starting my SA2026 in June at a GS/JPM/MS. I’m very grateful for the opportunity and I want to make the most of it—including setting myself up for success. I’ve been wondering if I should be networking with bankers before my internship start, or would that come across as too hardo? I’m already in a group so I don’t have to worry about group placement..

Speak to past interns first. Have heard arguments from both sides - can be perceived hardo but with that said it can actually be helpful. I spoke to someone at the firm before I started and it was very helpful - got guidance on stuff to know / prep, niche culture stuff and how to behave / act, things people appreciate. Overall was actually very helpul. However, some people might perceieve as hardo so maybe try this at someone you think would be receptive to it from your interview process experience. Aim to speak with past interns first before you try this on FT people.
