Networking during the Internship

I'm currently a SA in the asset management division at a BB, so the culture is somewhat different from IB and I'm not exactly sure how this translates to networking. Across the department its very common for analysts, associates, and VP all to schedule a time during the week to grab coffee and catch up, and we interns are also strongly encouraged to do this. I guess my question is, what am I supposed to talk about? Do I ask them questions about work or their life and hobbies? It feels weird to have to set aside a time slot on their calendar just for small talk, especially given I don't know anything about their lives beforehand, but it'll also get exceedingly dry if we just talk about work.
