Networking FT Advice
I'm currently recruiting for US FT 2026 IB roles, ideally within TMT groups, given my experience working on a few live VC TMT deals this summer at a semi-reputable family office. Since I come from a non-target school with limited alumni in banking, I've primarily been cold emailing. But I've only had around a 1% hit rate with around 600+ emails sent (including 2 follow-ups).
- Is my low hit rate for cold emails normal?
- How do you strike the right balance between not spamming an entire team or firm, while still ensuring you connect with at least one banker from each group? I typically try to send one email to each group/bank every day/every other day.
Happy to provide more info over PM.
FT networking is tough, people are a lot less responsive than SA recruiting especially if it's not an alumni
