No Discussion Topics for PE Interviews

Hey everyone,

I’m currently an incoming ANL and am part of a program that is helping me land a PE offer. We are currently going through mock interview sessions and was sent a Deal Experience Presentation framework to talk about said deals.

There are a lot of points that Im expected to talk about and it’s a 1 hour mock interview.

Given that PE recruiting timeline keeps on getting earlier and earlier, I was told that I will be interviewing for PE Aso roles my first month on the job as an ANL

The thing is, I haven’t closed any deals during my SANL stints and didn’t do any “important” work, it was always aligning PowerPoints, submitting requests, doing research, and shadowing / asking questions.

I never worked on a model ( I can do an LBO) or done anything important tbh given that I was just a SANL.

I’m expected to discuss lots of things for Deals and LBOs I’ve listed on my resume but I don’t have much. What do I do in this situation?

I worked on pitches and can give a high level breakdown of the deal (Buyer / seller, terms, purchase price, drivers). However, the framework I was given asks for very specific things such as Financial Profiles, Revenue and EBITDA trends, Margin trajectory, CF Profile, BS Profile, Cap Structure, Pre and Post transaction financials, Intercreditor issues, Legal issues, specific nuances, etc.

I was never exposed to any of this, it was all handled by Associates and VP, and I was just told to do simple tasks for the things I was staffed on. Of course I asked questions and tried to understand why it is we were doing things, and I am able to provide my own thesis of things, but I don’t really have any numbers to give, I have no quantitative data to provide which is what worries me.

What do I do in this situation? I may not be explains myself correctly but I’m just looking for guidance from current ANLs who feel they haven’t gotten much deal exposure and how are you handling PE recruiting.

I am a low income, non target student who grew up from a non traditional background. I go to a nameless school and managed to return to a top tier BB for full time. I don’t really have any college or student org resources to help me prep besides this program I was accepted into ( all be it I just got matched with a mentor and their helping me recruit) so any and all help, info, and advice is welcome !
