No FT 24 Apps!

Hi all. I currently am a senior at a target school who interned at a BB (GS/MS/Citi) this summer. I did not get the return offer and am currently recruiting for full-time. I check 30-40 banks career websites weekly and have not seen a single analyst applications in months. Should I start recruiting for another field in finance? Does anyone know what firms are running full-time processes?

Like the guy above said, quite a few ad-hoc things have been popping. Had a few EB and MM spots pop up until November.
Probably everyone will be chilling till new year. Things pop up last minute all the time. Don’t panic, you still have 4 months.
And given such few seats for such high demand, also not a bad idea to interview for roles other than banking.

In case nothing pans out in the short-term, always good to be prepared.

Thanks for the insight here. Do you know what MM/EB have been releasing apps? I’ve been checking weekly and haven’t seen anything.

Jeff had one in FSG and in Industrials around end of Sept/Oct (went back to my emails). Can’t recall either HL or RBC had one a month or two ago as this was told to me in a call.  Also two EBs had some spots open up. I don’t know if the postings were live. But I was referred by senior leadership in both (don’t wanna disclose) and had calls with HR. And they listed a few postings that they were currently hiring for and interviewing around one early Sept and another October end.

I personally couldn’t get further currently due to visa requirement in this market. Was told to get a couple years in Canada before lateraling.

Edit: A lot of FT processes are filled by referral of candidates who networked and impressed hiring managers or MDs. So, keep networking because a lot of the times banks fill the position before they need to make an official posting.

Citi gives returns to like everyone so I think that's part of the problem when you're framing your story.

spoken like someone who has no idea how return rates at Citi were this year. Higher than most banks but nowhere near all. I’d say 50-60%

FT is really a networking-based process, half the time they don't even open apps because they fill interviews from people who have reached out. You're also like 3-4 months late, FT takes place in August and September. They might open up 1 or 2 FT spots here or there in the new year, but again these are really only done through networking, they usually don't open up a new job online unless they have to.

I would significantly widen your net - small no-name boutiques, regional banks, IB-adjacent things like corp banking, TAS or valuation. Tough market unfortunately.

Is FT recruiting that bad that you struck out with a top BB SA or did you not apply to that many places?

I’m unable to find any applications to apply to / any banks that are even looking for ft analysts. I’ve been checking 30+ banks careers pages weekly and networking with 5ish bankers a week the last 3 months and have really not found any openings for first year ft analysts.

I love that half of the comments are just focused on identifying this dudes bank. Way to be helpful guys!

FT IB recruiting is largely network driven. I know Jefferies PCA in Dallas is looking for someone to join their group FT. Can give you a few emails to reach out to.

Piper Sandler just opened up a 2024 IBA upstream energy position in Houston

I haven’t see a full time 24 app in 2+ months. Everything is 99% over. Don’t have false hope. There may be one app in spring but don’t expect an abundance. I too want reassurance that apps will come out but not one banker or recruiter is telling me the some story. Pivoting to wealth management route.
