No Internship summer 2020
Hey everyone,
I am a rising junior. Just signed with a BB for SA 2021. I was supposed to work at a strategic consulting firm this summer but was told a week before the start date that my internship has been cancelled due to covid. I was so busy with SA 2021 recruiting then that I was silly enough to not apply to more places for this summer. I am really happy that I have an internship for next year but slightly worried about being asked in future interviews etc about not doing anything this summer. Do you think this is a problem? I am trying really hard to find something for the fall but haven't been very successful.
Thank you!
We are in perhaps the worst job market since the Depression. Of course firms will be understanding of the situation. I was supposed to have an internship for this summer but it was canceled. I’m going to intern at a BB as well next summer and they were understanding of the situation.
@DomeMoney", not trying to call you out or anything, but that is unfortunately not how it works. Sure, in a vaccuum HR would understand, but since you'll be competing against kids who actually did have SAs.
He’s not competing against anyone. He already has a job for next summer. It doesn’t matter what your previous XP was once you hit the desk for the internship.
Never count your eggs before they hatch. I would pick up the phone and start calling boutiques so that you have something on your resume. What if COVID-19 sticks around and that BB reneges its summer 2021 offer? Call up boutiques and see who still has spots. That's what I did when I couldn't land an SA spot at a top IB.
How likely in your opinion is it that a BB would actually rescind an offer due to COVID?
Curious about this too. No leading banks cancelled their programs/rescinded offers due to covid this year. Is there any chance that they might do that for SA 2021?
I think the telltale sign is going to be the conversion ratio from SA to FT this year. If it drops, I would expect SA classes next year to be smaller.
