Nomura GT or Greenhill

Hi everyone,

I am a junior professional and I was lucky to receive offers from both (GT and GHL).

Can anyone give me advice which bank would be a better fit/or any differences in terms of deal pipeline, culture? I really appreciate all your input!

Nomura GT focuses on green energy, renewables, etc. type of transactions. It is an interesting focus for sure, but if you aren't deadset on that I would go with GHL - better compensation, better exits, and better brand/name recognition (even though they aren't what they were ~10 years ago). Also, the fact that GHL's class size is rather small will make your experience better in terms of exposure to seniors at the firm or clients, if that's something you're interested in (it's definitely not for everyone)

Is this a joke? GHL is not what it used to be so it’s not on EVR/CVP/PJT level but it is still considered an excellent shop in terms of experience (due to small class size - they aren’t taking too many analysts), pay (competitive with the street, but not as high as PJT for eg), and exits (function of its small class size)

It depends on your career goals and interests.

If you’re interested in sustainability and renewables definitely Nomura Greentech. They are on many of the notable transactions across sustainability and are well respected in the space. You’ll essentially get a look at any renewables or sustainability related exit, including PE groups with energy, CleanTech or renewables focus. Comp is also EB esque instead of BB like. Unlike Greenhill you’d also be joining a generally growing platform with strong tailwinds. I can’t comment specifically on Greenhill’s growth trajectory but based on comments on the forum it generally doesn’t paint an exciting picture.

As pointed out above, since NGT is more specialized it will better set you up for a career in the renewables and sustainability space and if you know that isn’t something you’re ultimately interested in pursuing you may be better served elsewhere.
