Offer decision: GS LevFin vs MS TMT

Hi Guys,

I have two offers:

One is for GS Leveraged Finance and the other is for the Morgan Stanley TMT Group. Which one should I choose regarding working hours, lifestyle and exit opportunities? (Salary is roughly the same)

Thanks for your help!

What interests you? Do you have a preference for industry or product?

LevFin allows you to specialize on a part of a transaction, whereas in TMT you will probably do a lot of pitches and different types of transactions.

Both are top notch places, and will work you very hard.

I assume this is for SA? One thing to keep in mind is that GS is notoriously stingy with FT offers - some groups only convert 25% of SA's to FT offers.

No it's not - junk bond issuance this year is huge as companie's refinance. There's been $14.4bn this year so far which is the fastest start since 1980. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/50e5c19e-038a-11df-a601-00144feabdc0.html

Also most lev fin teams were cut to the bone so at the moment we're working with fewer people than ever on nearly as many deals although thankfully they aren't as complicated as the PE transactions back in the day.

To the OP - if you want free time then don't choose between two of the most competitive and focused banks on the street. You said this is outside NY? if it's in Europe then GS lev fin (in terms of work and relative position) isn't as good as MS Media and Telecoms
