Path to Wall Street for 18 yo
I am about to graduate high school with a dream to one day work on Wall Street. However, I am not sure which path to take in terms of college and future to get there. Can I go to a public university such as University of Oklahoma or Kansas (I live in midwest), and still get admitted to a prestigious MBA program that could get me recruited into high level IB job or future HF position? I understand it is a long road, but I just need a foot in the door and I am wondering if that route is still possible without going to a target undergrad school. I consider myself very smart with a 4.2 HS GPA and a 32 act, I just do not want to go into debt while getting my undergrad and would rather do that getting my MBA after a couple years of experience of course. I just need to know if it is possible or if I should change my plans in order to achieve my dreams. What do I need to do to get there?
If applying to KU look into business leadership program before you apply. Look into finance scholars and redtire once you get on campus. Also look into Koch scholars once you get on campus but I'm not sure if it still exists. If considering living in one of the dorms also look into the scholarship halls.
Really wouldn’t recommend going to either of those schools. It could shoot your BB chances in the foot. Although not impossible, it’ll become significantly more difficult and almost entirely be out of your hands (lotta luck involved, and by luck read nepotism).
There are better schools out there that’ll give you a full ride. Plus, going to a semi-target/target with a little bit of debt isn’t something you should worry about. The opportunities it’ll afford you will worth the debt alone, plus you’ll be able to pay it off pretty easily as a banker almost anywhere.
go for top privates if you get financial aid.
aim for unc/umich/uva if you have to pay sticker price.
youll be able to pay off the debt fast if you go to one of these schools and just be above average.
