Quick Background - Athlete from 16-21 , Coming into Uni at 21 , Diverse if that helps.

Target sure , semi target I don’t know tbh.
Would it be worth taking a year out to do something else?
bump
A levels?
Not done this is why it's the best I can get atm, was an athlete so only did BTEC. Thoughts on if it's worth to take time out to do them? Risk as I have no academic reference or if I didn't get the grades
"this market" probably isn't going to sustain until the relevant season for you which is, by my calcs, SA 2026. Besides internship cohorts aren't affected too much, it's more offers that are.
Not an ideal subject and uni combo since like a very large majority of IB SAs come from targets. But if that's the best you're gonna get, it's the best you're gonna get.
Yeah I can recognise it's not ideal, just wondering if it's possible willing to grind.
I don't want to be any further behind my peers (stupid, I know) what is your opinion on taking a year out to get qualifications to study econ at a semi target? Obviously risk I don't get the grades and a further year older, or is it just worth it for me to grind my way in with this degree/school combo
What are your current grades? Generally I wouldn't though.
Nothing special good GCSES, As and Bs, good BTEC grade.
Quite confident I can spin a decent story just worried I won't get any time of day with the degree/school combo
You seem to be a bit cagey with those grades haha. Don't care about GCSEs, no one's looking at those but was wondering what kind of jump we're talking about from where you are to the grades you'd need for semi target Econ. The maths grade is normally the biggest hurdle in these scenarios and it doesn't sound like you have an A level maths grade at all right now.
But eh, it's not so dire. When I say "it's not ideal" I don't mean in the British sense of "this is catastrophic", I mean it in the normal sense of it's not the most ideal situation. It's far from the worst situation. Could be better but is the jump from philosophy to Econ at a semi big enough to wait a year? Probably not. Are you gonna have to grind hard anyway/potentially end up taking a plan B route like big 4? Yes.
As I said, I probably wouldn't.
Don't give up before you start. If you want it bad enough – and are willing to put in the work despite starting behind – you'll get there eventually.
