get MBA
I was thinking of getting an MS in Finance instead. Thoughts?
Tbh a quick linkdin search will show you that MS in finance usually go to quant / trading roles. MBAs on the other hand feed right into IB, especially if you come from Wharton or Booth or CBS. So if your sole goal is IB or consulting, I’d recommend shooting for MBA. Only thing is MBAs look for 2ish years work experience.
Ps: pls take what I say about MS in Finance w a grain salt this is just based upon what I’ve seen and ppl I’ve spoken to. I know MBA —> IB is very common, however.
Shit advice. Don’t get an MBA, will most likely not be able to get into a good program without work experience. Just do the MSF.
Where did you go to school? Targets usually have no problem placing weird majors (philosophy, drama, arts, music) into IBD.
Sadly I didn’t go to a target school for my undergrad, in fact, I didn’t even go to college in the US. Tho I plan to apply to an MS in Finance program for fall ‘22 or ‘23, all contingent on how quick I can get a high GMAT and internships related to the master’s course
if you plan to school in Europe then do the MFin, if you plan to school in the US then do an MBA. Honestly the answer is as simple as that
You can try to do an internship at a boutique and pivot from there
