Phone call with IB MD

Info:
*Me: Solid Canadian Uni, Top Class GPA, graduated
*Intern in the same bank for S&T want transition into IB

*MD: TMT Coverage, 20 years in the same bank, will come back right after his vacation

My plan for the interview:

Briefly explain who am I, and then ask about his vacation.  Ask about how get he got into IB. Ask about his experience in the bank. Ask about the job opportunity?

What should I avoid? or what should I emphasis more?

Other monkeys may disagree but I feel that asking about vacation / other “opener” type questions should go before you introduce yourself. “Let me tell you about myself” is the perfect segue to IB-related questions, since that’s fresh. If it’s an MD, he/she might ask you about your more specifics right after that intro too.

I've found some MDs are much more interested in getting to know you on a personal level and tend to guide the conversation early on and then towards the back half may let you sort of fire away some questions

Important advice - don't turn the subject of the call to business until HE does. A lot of times a banker will be be shooting the shit and having an entertaining conversation and the kid stupidly changes the subject and goes "okay so how about I bore you to fucking death with my dumbass rehearsed story about my investment club, and then ask you some rehashed questions from the internet?" and it ruins the whole thing. If the guy on the other side is having fun shooting the shit, feel free to ditch the script.

Not asking for the specific company name in order to preserve your anonymity but correct me if I am wrong, are you in the UK? Have not heard of Canadian banks/brokerages doing internships for already graduated students? I think that model is only available in the UK. Also, I am planning on transfering to a top 3 Canadian Uni, would you reccomend? Would love to get your 2 cents on your career path so far
