Phone interview for IB intern?
Will be my first IB interview; any ideas on what the interview will cover? I assume it will mostly be "introduce yourself type" questions and one basic technical question like "walk thru a DCF". Any tips and advice will be appreciated.
Who is doing the interview? HR will likely have very standard behaviorals (tell me about a time when...) while an analyst or associate might probe you more on basic technicals. Know the M&I 400 front and back, and have some anecdotes in mind as stories
Thx so much. It's a boutique bank so the interviewer will be the director. Guess I'll treat it as a real interview.
Also depends on what type of bank as well. When I did an interview for a boutique, most of the questions were fit based. I prepared for technicals, but in the end, over the phone it seemed they were just screening to make sure I was mildly competent so I could come in for an in-person.
Especially if its just for an internship, just make sure you cover the basics and have a go-to standard answer for questions you don't know the exact answer to just in case. Stay current with regular business news- being able to talk briefly about a recent M&A deal definitely helped my case in recruiting when it came up. Best of luck man.
